What Would You Do?...

What would you do if you weren't afraid? Someone asked me that the other day. At first, I bristled. Why would you assume I'm afraid? What makes you think I don't already act without fear? But the question kept interrupting my thoughts so I decided to pay attention. Am I afraid? Fear, doubt, uncertainty. The triple-headed monster standing between us and our best selves.

If you aren't experiencing these feelings as you navigate running your business, then you aren't doing it right. Because these show up when you push toward something new. And in an industry that is always changing, you will need to adapt and explore, pivot, and evolve. And in that space, you will feel fear, doubt, and uncertainty. And that's ok. Because the other side of that is where the good stuff happens. So, what will I do when I push past fear? I will push to keep the agent-client relationship at the center of this industry. I will push to reframe our organization to lean into each individual's strengths and away from hierarchy so we can adapt quickly and have fun while we are doing it. I will make time to listen first, even if my initial reaction disagrees with what someone is saying because there are nuggets of wisdom in the experience of others.

My fear is that there isn't enough time, or that we can't change fast enough to keep up with what's coming for our industry so I will pause, and breathe, and know that I have a team and we can accomplish anything as long as we work together.

Now you. What would you do if you weren't afraid?
